Eğitim ve Toplum: Eğitim Teorilerinin Gözden Geçirilmesi


The module offers the opportunity for applying and intensifying knowledge and enhancing skills about scientific research in the field of intercultural education. It also gives the opportunity of reflecting on own intercultural competencies in reference to fellow students and students from other cultures.

Students are able to:

  • apply the procedures of scientific inquiry
  • identify subject-appropriate methods of scientific work
  • judge research according to quality criteria
  • describe and interpret findings in reference to different educational theory and in intercultural comparison and apply to educational practice
  • communicate and cooperate effectively in English with students from different cultural settings
  • document and discuss research findings to students from different cultures in English
  • reflect on their own intercultural competences in reference to different scientifically based instruments and relate their self-reflection to the reflections of fellow students and students from other cultures; draw conclusion for professional development as a teacher

 Teaching contents

  •  Logic of scientific research and inquiry;  Criteria for quality research; Survey methods and standards; qualitative and quantitative approaches
  •  Introduction to theories of intercultural competence; Assessment methods of intercultural competence; Necessity of Intercultural competencies in schooling (esp. teachers and pupils)
  • Research questions and hypothesis
  • Instrument design (conceptual)
  • Instrument development for/in intercultural exchange
  • Data collection and entry
  •  Descriptive analysis of quantitative survey data; content-analysis of qualitative interview data
  • Scientific documenting, reporting and presenting
